Degree Program Summary:

The Master in the Study of Law (M.S.L.) program is a non-thesis program for individuals interested in developing a general understanding of the legal system or expertise in a particular field that intersects with their professional interests. M.S.L. candidates are welcome from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels. Students who wish to apply to the program must have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution by the time they enroll in the program. Candidates must also submit a standardized test score such as the LSAT, GRE, GMAT or MCAT. Graduates of the program will acquire a working knowledge of the legal rules and principles affecting their area of interest, but will not be eligible to take the bar examination or to practice law.

The M.S.L. degree is awarded upon the successful completion of 30 credit hours of coursework. The program can be completed in one year for full-time students, or up to three years for part-time students. The students must begin their course work in the Fall Semester of each year and must take a 3-hour introductory course on the American legal system. The remaining course work will consist of classes relevant to the student’s profession or area of interest chosen from the law school’s extensive course offerings. Coursework can be completed at the School of Law’s main campus in Athens, its facility in Atlanta, or a combination of the two locations.
