The AB/MA for UGA undergraduates is designed for students pursuing a PhD in economics, finance, public policy, or statistics or seek positions requiring technical research skills.

Degree Type: Masters

Degree Program Code: MA_ECNM

Degree Program Summary:

According to its mission statement, the University of Georgia “endeavors to prepare the university community and the state for full participation in the global society of the twenty first century.” The Department of Economics plays an essential role in this mission, not only because it provides a necessary foundation for business education, but also because it is a core discipline and, as such, an integral part of a well-rounded, liberal education. The department strives to promote high-quality research and scholarship, and to provide students with an excellent education in economics as a foundation for general understanding of the world, successful undertaking of business endeavors, and advanced studies and research.

The Department of Economics in the Terry College of Business does not have an independently operating terminal MA program. Therefore, we do not admit students from outside UGA into a Master’s level program. However, we do provide the MA degree for two types of students. The first is for students who enter the Ph.D. program, but later decide not to pursue the Ph.D. The second is for UGA undergraduates who also seek to earn a MA degree. They can earn the MA by taking the classes required in the first year of the PhD program and writing a MA thesis.
