The focus of the M.A. degree program in Emerging Media is on interactive digital media strategy and implementation. The course work encompasses mobile app design, web development, graphic design, digital storytelling, product ideation, project management, user experience design and research and emerging technologies.

Degree Program Summary:

The Emerging Media Master’s concentration is the only online M.A. program offered for students in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. There is also an equivalent residential (i.e., in-person) Emerging Media M.A. degree program. Both the online and residential Emerging Media M.A. degree programs are designed to prepare students for professional careers.

The 100% online master’s degree program emphasizes digital media strategy and implementation. The course content explores advanced concepts of digital innovation and is designed to accommodate students from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds and professionals from a variety of industries.

The online Emerging Media master’s concentration requires 33 credit hours and can be completed in one year (3 semesters) or two years (6 semesters). Applicants accepted for the online M.A. degree program in Emerging Media always begin and end the program in May. No deviation from this timeline or the required courses is permitted.

Admission is a collaborative process involving both Grady College and the University of Georgia Graduate School.  Admission is based on undergraduate grade point average (ideally 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale), a statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation, as well as previous professional experience and scholarly work. Anyone holding a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is eligible to apply for admission to the master’s programs. The program is open both to students with undergraduate majors in journalism and mass communication and to those who have majored in other areas.
