The Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center offers an 18-month, non-thesis Master of Avian Medicine (MAM) graduate degree. The program is designed for veterinarians seeking a career in clinical avian medicine in the poultry industry.

Course work in microbiology, pathology, and poultry science are combined with practical field and laboratory experiences. At least 54 semester credit hours of coursework and the satisfactory completion of a final oral examination are required to complete the degree.

MAM graduates hold the majority of the poultry veterinary positions in the United States. Many also work internationally. Employment opportunities exist with poultry companies, poultry genetics companies, diagnostic laboratories, universities, state and federal agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and biologic companies. Jobs may involve live poultry production, disease diagnostics, technical service to poultry companies, research and development, food safety, academia, or regulatory affairs.

Application requirements include:

Official application for the Master of Avian Medicine (MAM_AVMD) degree through the Graduate School of The University of Georgia
DVM degree or its equivalent
If English is not their primary language, an English Language Proficiency Test which is currently accepted by The University of Georgia
Resume or CV
Biographical sketch detailing poultry experiences, interest in poultry medicine, and reasons for applying to the Master of Avian Medicine program
Three (3) letters of recommendation
Interview with the selection committee

Application packages must be completed by November 30th to be considered for matriculation the following June. Accepted applicants will be notified by February 1.
