Degree Program Summary:
The Middle Grades Education Program offers two Masters degree programs. The Master of Education degree (MEd) is for individuals who already hold middle grades (4 through 8) certification. The Master of Arts in Teaching in Middle Grades Education (MAT) is for individuals who wish to gain initial certification along with earning a Masters degree.
The MAT in Middle Grades Education program consists of 78 credit hours. The program requires full-time study in cohorts that begin in September each year. The program takes two years to complete, including summer school each year. Required courses are offered only at the Athens campus. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum 2.8 undergraduate GPA, a GRE score of at least 850, with a minimum score of 400 on each of the verbal and quantitative subtests, or a Miller Analogies Test score of at least 402. The program starts once a year in the fall semester. For full consideration, applicants should apply by December 1 for the following fall semester. If space is available, faculty will consider applications after the deadline.
