The Master of Social Work program prepares graduate students for advanced social work practice. We strive to develop future leaders in the profession of social work who are able to meet the ever-changing local, national, and global challenges.

Degree Program Summary:

The primary mission of social work is to enhance human well-being and to help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. Professional social workers are employed in schools, hospitals, mental health clinics, senior centers, elected office, private practice, prisons, corporations, and in many public and private agencies that serve individuals and families in need.

Students leave our program as competent and creative social workers ready for advanced practice. The MSW program at Georgia is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and our school is ranked No. 10 among public MSW programs and No. 20 overall by U.S. News and World Report of social work graduate programs nationwide.

  • For applicants with a BSW from a CSWE-accredited program
  • 1 Year (3 semesters)
  • Daytime In-Person Classes

Athens Campus Full-Time

  • 2 Year Program
  • Daytime In-Person Classes
  • Choose Micro, Macro or Integrated/Combined Specialization

Gwinnett Campus  Extended-Time

  • 3 or 4 Year Program options
  • Evening In-Person Classes
  • Micro Specialization only

Online Extended-Time

  • 3 Year Program
  • Asynchronous Online classes
  • Micro Specialization only

Individualized practicum internships for all program options will take place within the state of Georgia. We also offer Dual Degree and Certificate options, to supplement your MSW.
