Effective July 1, 2025, the working titles for faculty and staff who administratively support graduate programs and liaise with the Graduate School will be changed in GradSlate, GradStatus, and all communications. Specifically, faculty who are appointed by the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School to oversee graduate programs will be referred to as Directors of Graduate Studies (currently Graduate Coordinators). Additionally, staff who perform administrative duties in support of graduate programs will be referred to as Graduate Program Administrators (currently Graduate Coordinator Assistants).
Please update unit directories, communication templates, program websites, and other references to these roles accordingly by August 1, 2025.
These new working titles more accurately reflect the nature of the administrative responsibilities associated with these positions. The new titles are also better aligned with practices at comparator and aspirant peer institutions, and were informed by input from UGA faculty, staff, and administrators, including current Graduate Coordinators and Graduate Coordinator Assistants.
Please note that these position title changes are relevant only in the context of how individuals in these roles engage with the Graduate School, current and prospective graduate students, and the broader University community. They do not reflect changes in effort allocation, job classifications, compensation, or titles within UGA’s University Human Resources systems. The scope of duties of the Director of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Program Administrator positions are described in the Graduate Program Administration handbook, but specific responsibilities can vary by unit.
