In early August, the Graduate School launched the inaugural Gateway Bootcamp, a multi-day, in-person, immersive graduate education acclimation program for fourteen incoming summer and fall 2026 master’s and doctoral students. This graduate education acclimation program provided information on topics promoting foundational knowledge to students who may be less familiar with graduate education and the unique learning opportunities and resources available at a large R1 institution.
In collaboration with several campus units, the Bootcamp was held in multiple buildings to familiarize participants with locations that may feature predominantly in their time at UGA. Participants were introduced to academic, professional, and personal campus resources to assist along the graduate education journey, and they were encouraged to identify what success in their graduate education looks like to them.

All full-time doctoral and master’s students newly matriculating in summer or fall 2026 were eligible to be nominated by their department.
Collaborative partners included the UGA Libraries, the Center for Teaching and Learning, The Jill and Marvin Willis Center for Writing, and the Career Center.
