The Graduate School introduces the inaugural Engaged Scholarship by Graduate Students Award

The Graduate School is pleased to announce the inaugural Engaged Scholarship by Graduate Students Award, established in partnership with UGA Public Service & Outreach and the Office of Service-LearningThis award will recognize graduate students from across the university whose work is impacting communities through their efforts in scholarship, research, and engagement. 

“The Engaged Scholarship Award is a way to honor graduate students for exceptional work that reflects the University of Georgia’s commitment to public service and outreach. Together with awards recognizing excellence in graduate student research and teaching, these accolades highlight some of the many positive contributions made by graduate students to the university mission,” said Ron Walcott, vice provost for graduate education and dean of the Graduate School. 

Up to three students will each be awarded $1,000 and will be recognized annually during Honors Week in April. Graduate students must be nominated by their Graduate Coordinators following the guidance in the Call for Nominations.  

Nominees and recipients will be evaluated and selected by reviewers based on the following award criteria:  

  1. level of engagement in a community-university partnership  
  2. benefit to the community/community partner  
  3. quality of impact/outreach in addressing a need  
  4. quality of scholarship in research and/or teaching  
  5. innovation/creativity  
  6. leadership

The Graduate School recognizes excellence in graduate education among students, faculty and staff through annual awards.
